Description
The term ‘Mni Wiconi’ is a Lakota phrase meaning ‘water is life’, that became a universal cry to protect our natural resources when the world watched in horror in 2017 as the American government approved the North Dakota access oil pipeline on sacred native ground. Zero consideration was given to the tribes as the pipeline gouged its way through sacred burial lands, or the fact that the construction of the pipeline would almost certainly poison the very water that the Standing Rock Sioux tribe depend on. The water has indeed been poisoned, legal proceedings are ongoing.
